Summer garden party for 20

It is all going terribly well.  There was a moment of panic on Thursday of course when I thought I’d lost my credit card. How was I to buy the comestibles for this weekend’s party? It turned out to be underneath the driver’s seat in the car. Retrieving it was somewhat undignified but at least I didn’t have to stint on the run to the liquor store.  On Friday morning, it poured and the rain kept up until Saturday morning. Would the seat cushions dry out in time for a gathering on the Wilson M. Barron Memorial Deck that afternoon? They did. Or, if they didn’t quite, the guests were too polite to mention a little dampness in their pants.

July in the national capital region is famously humid and miserably hot. Yesterday was much cooler, thanks to all that rain, and so we sat outside and were largely ignored by the mosquitoes.

The Hottie and Gretel’s friend from the Grocery acted as sous chefs and there were only a couple of minor incidents involving the overly sensitive smoke detector (the most highly strung member of our household).

Almost all the food was eaten, but I enjoyed the rest of the roast tomatoes on my toast this morning. For elevenses, I will have yogurt with the left over fruit from the bucket of Pimms.
